For me, a day in the life here at LMU Law looks a little bit different than maybe many of the other traditional students. I'd gone to grad school previously. I have an MBA [and] I did have a career and experience beforehand. I'm also a mom and a wife.
The student experience here at LMU Law, I think is very different than I would have gotten anywhere else. I know most of the staff on a first name basis. And I think that that really helps out with trying to manage not only the classwork but also your own personal goals, everybody's willing to talk to you about maybe connections or the things that are happening outside the school that can help further your education, and really, ultimately, your career.
And I think that's been pivotal in everything that I've had come my way since being here at LMU Law, there's a lot of options for people who want to be involved in this school. I have been on the mock trial competition team, we call it the travel team. And it's been really instrumental in kind of building that confidence of being able to get up in front of real life judges.
And I know it has helped me in many of the other experiences I've had, like working for the Legal Aid of East Tennessee. My supervisors at Legal Aid, really have shaped my view of what it means to be an attorney, especially in East Tennessee, and looking at those underserved communities. I've also been part of the SBA, which is our Student Bar Association. And it's been fun because I have friends now who span age gaps of different decades in both directions.
Looking forward to graduation, I'm definitely setting my sights on helping the community here at an East Tennessee, likely as a criminal defense lawyer, you can't really know what it's like to help people and to go meet them where they are. And sometimes it's at the lowest point in their life and to be able to know that I have the skills to actually help them and meet with these people and make an impact in their life. It all comes from the experiences that really the school has helped facilitate in my life.
