Almost half of our students are first generation college students. Keeping that in mind, we offer programs to be able to assist first generation law students, both navigating the classwork that they have, and then also the exam prep...
... Which was very helpful during my time here. We have some legal foundation classes that we offer to first semester, second semester, 1L students, which are very helpful, it teaches you how to be a law student, which again, is maybe something that you are not familiar with, if you're first generation. We have several different groups and societies that also offer extra resources, a sense of community, a sense of belonging, being with others who are familiar with your circumstances, is always helpful.
Virtually all of our professors actually had to practice in the areas that they teach, but also many of them are first generation students and so they have a better understanding of the unique challenges that come with being a first generation college student.
It is a smaller school and it feels like a small community. Everyone's very personable, I was able to reach my professors quickly. They were very helpful. The administration is very kind and personable as well. And this sense of belonging that I felt that was very different from other larger law schools.
